TRANSPORTATION VS. ADAPTATION

The two major phases of the porting process have been identified as:

• ADAPTATION: Modification of an element to prepare it for use in a new environment.

• TRANSPORTATION: Physical moving of elements to the new environment, with low-level adaptation as needed.

Note that Transportation includes low-level adaptation, which generally is dependent on the environment rather than on the application.
