3 hr. PR: CS 256. Operating System topics not covered in CS 156 or 256; reliability and security, system management, and virtual machine structures; introduction to distributed and realtime systems; emphasis on design issues faced by actual systems.

This is a followup course for CS256, which examines advanced topics not covered in CS256. The approach is descriptive, based on various real example systems. The text is a continuation of the CS256 text. The principal assignment is a term paper. There is no programming project.
